Ghanaian actress Matilda Asare has earned a Master’s degree in Human Resources and Management (Strategy) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), marking a significant milestone in her personal and professional life.

The graduation ceremony was held on Friday, 27 June 2025, at the KNUST campus in Kumasi. Matilda, widely recognised for her roles in Kumawood films, shared that the journey to this academic achievement had not been easy.

According to her, she first completed a Bachelor’s degree in 2011 at Baptist University College, where she studied Human Resource and Management. She explained that she had to put her academic ambitions on hold due to work demands and family responsibilities.

“I completed my first degree in 2011 at Baptist University College. I did Human Resources and Management. I was in school while I actively involved in film making but people didn’t know.

I had to pause several times because of work, raising kids, and family responsibilities. But I never gave up on going back to complete what I started,” she said.

Matilda stated that her return to academia was inspired by her desire to gain more knowledge, especially as she transitions into film production.

“I felt it was necessary to learn more about management and other things because I am now moving into producing movies,” she added.

Her graduation was attended by several key industry figures, including Rev. Samuel Nyamekye of Miracle Films, Apostle John Prah, and director Jones Agyeman, who came to support her on the special occasion.

Matilda’s achievement reflects a growing trend among Ghanaian creatives who are returning to school to enhance their skills and expand their influence beyond performance.

In recent years, several entertainers including Van Vicker, Guru, D Cryme, Samini, Amerado, Kokovelli, Jackie Appiah and Kalsoume Sinare have pursued higher education, balancing academic life with their careers in the arts.

This growing shift highlights a wider recognition of the role education plays in the creative industry, not only in personal development but also in building sustainable careers, taking on leadership roles, and contributing meaningfully to the growth of the sector.
