The Accra Region Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two individuals in connection with the violent incidents that characterised the parliamentary re-run in the Ablekuma North Constituency of the Greater Accra region on July 11.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 23, and signed by Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, Supt. Juliana Obeng, the suspects were identified as Musah Muntari, a 46-year-old Station Manager at STC, and Ali Saeed, popularly known as Mboma, a 43-year-old businessman.

The Police noted that both suspects are currently assisting with investigations into the disturbances and reported assaults that occurred at various polling stations during the rerun election.

The rerun, held to elect a parliamentary representative for the area, was tainted by unrest and scenes of violence that drew widespread criticism.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding electoral integrity, the Ghana Police Service stated: “We urge the public to continue cooperating with the Police and to share credible information.”

The statement further reminded citizens that they may reach the Police through emergency lines 18555 or 191, as part of ongoing efforts to uphold law, order, and democratic accountability.
