The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested three men in connection with the possession and manufacturing of locally made pistols in Shiashi, a suburb of Accra.

The suspects have been identified as 24-year-old dispatch rider Patrick Gyimah of Bawaleshie, 27-year-old electrical welder Emmanuel Osei Yeboah of Adenta Commando, and 29-year-old private security guard Charles Somuah of Ogbojo.

Police in a statement issued on August 14, and signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs, said on August 7, 2025, that a patrol team spotted Gyimah in a secluded area in Shiashi under suspicious circumstances.

A search revealed a locally manufactured pistol in his pocket. Gyimah allegedly told police he bought the weapon from Yeboah and Somuah at East Legon for GH₵2,000, paying GH₵800 upfront with the promise that documents for the firearm would be provided before completing payment.

The following day, Gyimah led officers to arrest Yeboah and Somuah at their homes. A search at Yeboah’s residence uncovered two more locally made pistols, a toy pistol, a BB 12 bore cartridge, and a jackknife. Police say Yeboah admitted to fabricating the three pistols and selling one to Gyimah

The three have been charged with manufacturing firearms without authority, possession of firearms without authority, and abetment to the manufacture of firearms without authority, contrary to the Arms and Ammunition Act 1972 (NRCD 9).

They pleaded not guilty in court and were remanded into custody to reappear on August 22, 2025.

Supt. Juliana Obeng cautioned the public against the manufacture, sale, or possession of illegal firearms, warning that such acts are punishable under Ghanaian law.

She also urged citizens to report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station to help maintain peace and security.
