The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has distanced itself from recent comments made by its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (popularly known as Wontumi), and Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, alias Abronye DC, regarding the party’s upcoming presidential primaries.

The party stressed that the remarks do not represent its official position.

Wontumi is reported to have claimed that the decision to hold the presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, was designed to favour a particular aspirant.

Abronye is also reported to have claimed that he compiles the Bono Regional album and will prevent certain individuals from voting.

However, in a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong on September 28, the party dismissed the claims, emphasising that no individual, regardless of rank or position, has unilateral control over the compilation of polling station albums.

The statement further clarified that the process of compiling the albums is governed by strict compliance procedures. It assured that the National Secretariat will, in due course, issue clear and transparent guidelines to guarantee integrity, credibility, and fairness in the exercise.

The party also called on stakeholders, especially polling station executives, to disregard the comments, describing them as misleading.

According to the statement, the January 31 date was arrived at by the National Council after “exhaustive deliberations in the supreme interest of the party.”

“The decision to hold an early congress is intended solely to provide the Party with sufficient time and strategic advantage to reorganise, reposition, and recapture power in 2028,” the statement explained.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, fairness, and internal democracy, the NPP assured that all electoral activities will be conducted in line with the highest standards of integrity.
