The Bekwai Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Justice Isaac Appiatu, has sentenced two young men to a combined 35 years in prison with hard labour for their involvement in a robbery.
The convicts, Abubakar Sadiq, 20, and Yussif Yakubu, 19, were found guilty of robbing a trader, Agnes Opoku, near the Bekwai Wesley Senior High School on April 2, 2025.
The two reportedly attacked their victim, stealing her phone and other belongings before fleeing the scene.
According to ASP Lloyd Baidoo Esq., Ashanti South Regional Court Officer and acting Public Relations Officer for the regional command, police investigations led to the arrest of the suspects at separate hideouts after days of tracking.
Justice Appiatu sentenced Yakubu to 15 years in prison, while Sadiq received a 20-year term, both to be served with hard labour.
ASP Baidoo expressed concern over the rising involvement of young people in criminal activities, urging the youth to channel their energy into productive ventures. He also cautioned individuals nurturing criminal tendencies to abandon such behaviour before the law catches up with them.
