Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician Yaw Sarpong has reportedly passed away.
News of his death emerged on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Sources close to his family say the veteran musician died at Emena Hospital in Kumasi, where he had been receiving medical care.
Yaw Sarpong was widely revered for his pioneering contributions to Ghanaian gospel music. He rose to prominence as the long-time leader of the Asomafoɔ Gospel Band, with whom he produced several timeless gospel classics that helped shape contemporary gospel music in Ghana.
Over the decades, his work earned him immense respect within the Christian community and the wider music industry, with many younger gospel artistes citing him as a major influence on their musical journeys.
