Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the newly elected NPP flagbearer, is set to prioritize internal reforms, aiming to unite the party and reclaim power in 2028. According to Sammi Awuku, Senior Advisor to Bawumia’s campaign team, the focus areas include restoring voting status to external branches, addressing proxy voting, and strengthening pro-poor policies.
Awuku highlighted Bawumia’s concerns about the party’s current state, emphasizing the need for discipline and adaptability to changing trends. “A party that is not disciplined cannot win an election,” Awuku quoted Bawumia as believing. The party’s goal is to reconnect with its base and appeal to the broader Ghanaian electorate, making the NPP “a party of choice, a party that is loved and respected” once again.
