Ghana’s Black Starlets suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Senegal in their second Group D match at the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Starlets started brightly and had an early goal ruled out by VAR in the 8th minute. Senegal were then reduced to ten men in the 42nd minute after El Hadji Sow received a second yellow card and was sent off.
Despite the numerical advantage, Ghana failed to capitalize. Isaac Barfo missed a penalty in first-half stoppage time.
Senegal made the Starlets pay in the second half. Ibrahima Dione scored in the 57th minute to hand the former champions the lead.
Ghana pushed hard for an equalizer late in the game but could not break down Senegal’s resilient defense, even with the extra man.
The result leaves Ghana bottom of Group D with just one point heading into their final group match against South Africa.
