Government holds National Inter-Faith Memorial Service in honour of the eight individuals who lost their lives in the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash, marking one year since the tragedy that shocked the nation.
The solemn ceremony, held on Thursday, August 6, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), brought together government officials, religious leaders, traditional authorities, members of the Ghana Armed Forces, families of the deceased and other dignitaries to pay tribute to the eight victims and reflect on their contributions to national service.
The memorial service serves as a moment of remembrance and thanksgiving as the country honours the lives and legacies of the eight individuals who died while undertaking official duties in the interest of Ghana.
The victims died on August 6, 2025, when a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region while travelling from Accra to the Ashanti Region.
The crash claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed; former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong; and former NDC parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye.
Three Ghana Armed Forces personnel who were part of the helicopter crew — Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah — also lost their lives in the crash.
At the inter-faith gathering, religious leaders offered prayers and messages of comfort to the bereaved families while calling on Ghanaians to preserve the memories and values of the deceased.
One year after the tragedy, the memorial service provides an opportunity for the nation to unite in remembrance of the eight individuals whose service, sacrifice and contributions continue to leave a lasting impact on Ghana.
