Newly elected Ashanti Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Francis Adomako, has rejected claims that he was disloyal to the flagbearer of the party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, during the party’s presidential primaries.
Dr Adomako said he never openly or indirectly campaigned for any other presidential aspirant and insisted that his role as Regional Organiser required him to support and mobilise for the party’s flagbearer whenever he visited the region.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Monday, August 17, 2026, he said accusations that he did not work for Dr Bawumia were surprising given his activities during the campaign.
“You can do your own background check. I never followed any aspirant anywhere. I never campaigned directly or indirectly for any other aspirant,” he said.
Dr Adomako said he accompanied Dr Bawumia throughout his first campaign visit to the Ashanti Region, while he was unable to participate in the second visit because he was sitting university examinations.
“The only person I can boast of following is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. When he came to the region for campaign two times, the first time he came, I went everywhere with him,” he said.
He said he deliberately declined invitations from other presidential aspirants, including Dr Bryan Acheampong and other contenders, to campaign with them in constituencies across the region.
“Even Dr Adu Twum comes from my region. He called me; I didn’t join,” he said.
Dr Adomako said the accusations of disloyalty were nevertheless used against him during the regional elections and contributed to attempts to portray him as someone who did not support Dr Bawumia.
He maintained that his work as Regional Organiser involved supporting every flagbearer who visited the region, including mobilising party members and coordinating constituency-level activities.
Dr Adomako said he was therefore surprised to hear during the regional election campaign that he was allegedly not working for Dr Bawumia.
“For me to be told last week that ‘you are not working for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,’ it just makes me a little nervous,” he said.
