The Council of State will meet teacher unions on Friday, October 9, 2026, to discuss outstanding concerns behind the ongoing industrial action by pre-tertiary teachers.
The 1:00 p.m. meeting is expected to address delayed promotions, deprived-area allowances and negotiations on a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Ministry of Education.
The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG) have cited these issues among the reasons for their strike.
Meanwhile, Controller and Accountant-General Kwasi Agyei says his department has processed the promotion records of 52,000 teachers and received the required forms from the Ghana Education Service (GES), paving the way for verification ahead of salary adjustments and arrears payments.
Friday’s engagement is expected to provide a platform for the unions to present their concerns as stakeholders work towards resolving the dispute.
