The Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has donated food items and other essential supplies to inmates at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison to support their welfare and demonstrate solidarity with persons in custody.
The donation, made on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, included bags of rice, maize, gari, sugar, milk, bottled water and other food supplies to support the inmates’ feeding needs.
Constituency executives accompanied the MP during the visit, which he described as part of his patriotic and humanitarian responsibility to people within his constituency.
The visit also brought Annoh-Dompreh into contact with Chairman Wontumi, who is being held at the Nsawam prison facility.
The MP explained that, as the representative of the area where the prison is located, he considered it important to extend support to the facility and its inmates, particularly as the year draws to a close.
Speaking during the presentation, Annoh-Dompreh said the donation was intended to supplement the food provided for inmates and help address some of their immediate needs. He urged the prison authorities to ensure that the items reached the inmates for whom they were donated.
He acknowledged that the supplies might not be enough to meet all the prison’s needs but described the gesture as a modest contribution from his office, made in the spirit of public service and concern for the welfare of people in custody.
The MP said the timing of the donation was deliberate, noting that the period approaching the end of the year presented an opportunity to show care and support for inmates who depend on the prison authorities and external assistance for their daily needs.
“This forms part of our patriotic duties to present these foodstuffs and some soap which the inmates need. These items are for the inmates, and we pray that you make them available for them as presented. I know you need more than this, but this is my widow’s mite I can present,” he said.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Ghana Prisons Service, a prison official expressed appreciation to the MP.
The official conveyed the gratitude of the Director-General of Prisons, the officer in charge of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, who also serves as the Eastern Regional Commander, as well as prison staff and inmates.
The official thanked Annoh-Dompreh for the food supplies, including rice, sugar and other provisions, and offered prayers for his health, long life and continued well-being. He also prayed for God to replenish the resources spent on the donation and bless the MP and members of his entourage for remembering the inmates.
“We’re grateful to Hon. Annoh-Dompreh for the donation; we pray God replenish all that you have spent; we pray for long life for you and your entourage for this honour. God bless you,” he said.
The presentation forms part of Annoh-Dompreh’s reported support for the Nsawam prison facility. Earlier in the year, he undertook other interventions, including the provision of paint and support for medical screening exercises, to contribute to inmates’ welfare and improve conditions at the facility.
