Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo is expected to miss around eight weeks of action after sustaining a knee injury while playing for Manchester City, in a setback for both club and country.
The 26-year-old is targeting a return in December following medical assessments, although his recovery timeline remains subject to progress during rehabilitation.
Semenyo suffered the injury after coming on as a 77th-minute substitute for Jeremy Doku during City’s 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town. He appeared to be in considerable discomfort and went straight down the tunnel at the final whistle.
Medical scans reportedly indicated that the injury could keep him out for up to two months, potentially ruling him out of several key fixtures during the coming weeks.
His absence would be a blow to City as they compete in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and EFL Cup. Semenyo has made an encouraging start to the campaign, recording two goals and three assists in nine appearances across all competitions.
The Ghanaian is expected to miss a demanding run of matches, including Premier League games and European fixtures, depending on the duration of his recovery.
The injury could also affect Ghana’s preparations for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying assignments.
The Black Stars face a crucial double-header during the November international window, scheduled for November 10 to 18, as they seek to improve their position in the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
Ghana are bottom of Group C, making the forthcoming matches particularly important to their hopes of qualifying for the continental tournament.
Semenyo’s potential absence would deprive the national team of one of their key attacking options. His pace, direct running and goal contributions have made him an important figure for the Black Stars.
The technical team may therefore have to consider alternatives in attack if the forward remains unavailable for the November fixtures.
A December return remains a target rather than a confirmed date, with the timing ultimately dependent on his recovery.
Both Manchester City and Ghana will be monitoring his progress as they prepare for important fixtures in the weeks ahead.
