The suspended Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Zakaria Abdulai, says he has been cautioned and granted self-recognisance bail by the Police.
His comment follows reports that he has been arrested over alleged sexual assault on several female students of Obuasi SHTS, in an investigative piece “Inside the Dreaded Headmaster’s Bungalow” produced by JoyNews Investigative Correspondent, Manasseh Azure Awuni.
News about his arrest was first made public by Minister of the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, when he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
“We’ve been able to get one of the ladies, maybe I shouldn’t be putting so much information out, about semen, we are getting DNA… So, what is happening is that this gentleman has been arrested. He’s going through the due process,” Mr Muntaka told the committee.
Reacting to this report in an interview with Radio Show Host Blakk Rasta, Mr Abdulai said he has been placed under a self-recognisance bail.
“I have been cautioned because one girl and her parents said I have raped her. So they reported, I was cautioned, and as a headmaster I was given self-recognisance bail. I’m waiting for court days”, he told Blakk Rasta.
Mr Abdulai continued that “If I give you the turn of events for this particular girl who is claiming I have raped her, you’ll be shocked.”
When the host specifically asked him if the female student in question was a bad girl following his narration, Mr Abdulai said, “I don’t know her, but I know she’s given birth. She has a child. She’s 20-21 years old. But I cannot judge her, whether she’s bad or good.”
“I have my story, and the committee that did the investigation has heard my story. That is against the story of the girl and her people. Well, the committee that did the investigation heard my story and my story will soon be out.”
The docket of the case reported by one of the victims, according to Police, has been forwarded to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice for advice on the next line of action.
Following the JoyNews investigation, the Headmaster, who also served as Juaben Constituency Secretary for the National Democratic Congress and was seeking to contest for Constituency Chairman, withdrew from the race under pressure from his party.
Meanwhile, the embattled school head has sued JoyNews investigative correspondent Manasseh Azure Awuni and the Multimedia Group Ghana Limited (MGL) for defamation over allegations of sexual abuse involving female students in the school.
