Professor Peter Twumasi, the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has been dismissed from his position.
Dodzie Numekevor has been appointed to take over as Acting Director General until a permanent replacement is named.
Numekevor’s appointment, signed by Secretary to the President Nana Bediatuo Asante on February 26, 2024, gives him 14 days to accept the position.
Twumasi faced growing criticism for his handling of various state stadiums, including the Accra Sports Stadium, which was shut down mid-season to host concerts, affecting several clubs such as Hearts of Oak, Accra Lions, and Great Olympics.
Twumasi was initially appointed Director General of the NSA on December 10, 2018, succeeding Robert Sarfo Mensah, who stepped down following his alleged involvement in the ‘number 12’ scandal exposed by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Tiger EyePI.
Additionally, the NSA has transferred several regional directors to the headquarters in Accra.
They include Northern Regional boss Salamatu Alhassan, Central Regional chief Alexander Tiiku, Ashanti Regional director Emmanuel Appiah, and Volta Regional head Daniel Sarpei.
