The Western Regional National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) officer, Abdul Ganiyu says they are going to intensify education in the coastal communities on safety precautions in respect of premix fuel handling.

This follows the premix explosion at Ngyiresia in the Essikado-Ketan Constituency over the weekend.

Mr. Ganiyu said this during a visit to the scene of the disaster to assess the extent of damage. He expressed regret at the impact on those affected and indicated that education along the coast will be intensified.

“… we are going to work together to make sure that education will continue so that lives and property will be save here” he stated

Meanwhile, NPP Parliamentary candidate for Essikado-Ketan Constituency, Charles Onuawonto Bissue is promising government’s support to absorb the bills of the victims who are currently undergoing surgeries at the hospital.

He spoke during a visit to the victims at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital and St. Benedict Hospital to commiserate with the deceased families.

” it is not about (political party) politics,… the mayor and Western Regional Minister were all here yesterday and promised government will absorb the bills and that this shouldn’t happen again, and the need for us to learn from it and ensure there is health and safety within our fishing communities. We are going to ensure that it is done properly and replicated across the coastal communities.

“…for the families that have lost their loved ones, we are praying for them and commiserate with them”

The premix explosion which occurred in the late hours of Saturday May 18, 2024, affected some sixteen people.

Two passed away in the early hours of Sunday May 19. Three have been referred for further treatment; two to the Korle bu Teaching Hospital and one to Interberton, Cape Coast
