Ghanaian gospel singer, Ohemaa Mercy has revealed the circumstances leading to her divorce.

Speaking in an interview with Cookie Tee on TV3, she disclosed that she requested for a divorce to honour God’s ministry.

According to her, she opened up to her ex-husband about her intention and he agreed because it was his “passion” for her to pursue God’s ministry.

Ohemaa Mercy explained that at a point, she felt she was “failing” God and needed a break from marriage to focus more on the ministry.

Although divorced, Ohemaa Mercy believes God’s presence has been very strong in her life more than it was when she was married.

“When I spoke to my partner, he understood that we have to do this. I told him that I really want us to have a break and then I need to run with the ministry and I know that is your passion for me. Let’s take care of the kids and help each other.

“I don’t want to fail God because its like I’m failing God.

“I am divorced, yes but this is the time I have seen the hand of God so strong in my life even more than I was married,” she said on Today’s Woman on September 7.

She revealed that she sought guidance from the Holy Spirit as to whether she was pursuing the right path to divorce her husband because she requested for divorce.

According to her, she spent months praying until she received a confirmation from God to go ahead with the divorce.

“I remember when I was going through divorce. During COVID-19, I depended solely on God for direction, I had a strong covenant with him. I will go to the mountains to pray for three months and I really wanted to hear what the lord will tell me about what is going on around me. So, when I heard it clearly, I took that bold step.  I had the confirmation from God, If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have done it,” she added.
