The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited, has rescheduled its planned maintenance exercise, known as pigging.

The exercise will now occur from February 3 to March 2, 2025. During this one-month maintenance period, the company will halt gas flow to Ghana.

In a statement issued by WAPCo on Wednesday, January 15, the cleaning exercise was described as critical, as it aligns with industry best practices.

The pigging exercise was originally scheduled for January this year. Had it proceeded, the country would have faced power supply challenges, as various energy producers would not have sufficient gas to operate their plants and generate electricity. A week ago, the new government assured the public that steps would be taken to postpone the pigging exercise to prevent disruptions to the country’s power supply.

WAPCo’s decision to delay the pigging until next month will avert the potential power crisis that had been feared.

Without this postponement, the new government would have needed 90 million dollars to purchase fuel for the power plants.
