The Bono Regional Police Command has launched investigations into a fire incident that claimed the lives of a couple at Asuakwa, a suburb of the Sunyani East municipality.

According to a police statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer for the Command, officers received a distress call on Monday, October 20, 2025, and quickly proceeded to the scene, where personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were already battling the blaze.

The victims, identified as Nana Ameyaw Ampofo, aged 65, and Grace Adu Boafoawaa, aged 49, were found burnt beyond recognition. A crime scene management team conducted an assessment and found that the entire building and its contents had been destroyed.

Two bodies were recovered from the kitchen area, while a Toyota Highlander and a pickup truck parked nearby were partially damaged.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Police say they are working closely with the Ghana National Fire Service to determine the cause of the fire and have assured the public of timely updates as investigations continue.
