James Agalga, Chairman of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has praised the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for restoring order and implementing a more organised recruitment screening process at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.

Speaking during a visit with other committee members, Agalga said the improvements ensure a safer and more efficient process for prospective recruits.

“They have now formed quite a number of centres and teams to simultaneously assess the eligibility of applicants interested in joining the armed forces. We’ve seen for ourselves that doctors are at work, and the teams responsible for documentation are also functioning simultaneously,” he explained.

The visit comes a week after a deadly stampede at the same venue claimed six lives and left several others injured.

JoyNews checks at the stadium showed a calm and highly controlled environment, with about 1,600 shortlisted applicants being processed under close supervision.

Military personnel were directing movements carefully to prevent overcrowding.

Agalga added that the committee will monitor other screening centres to ensure the improved system is implemented nationwide.

“At the end of the day, we’re going to have a meeting with the CDS and his team. Definitely what they have ruled out, which impresses us, we would want them to codify that into a guiding instrument for future operations,” he said.

The GAF has assured applicants and the public that the new measures prioritise safety, efficiency, and transparency in the recruitment process.
