The La District Court has remanded two women accused of assaulting a 12-year-old girl near La Roman Junior High School.
The accused persons, Precious Giftan Mesopeh, 22, and Princess Giftan Mesopeh, 25, are facing three charges — conspiracy, assault and cruelty to a child.
Their mother, Priscilla Novishie Wanyo, is currently at large and is being sought by the police.
Both accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded in custody for two weeks after the court rejected a bail application filed by their lawyer.
The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Gladys Aikins Asare, opposed the bail application, arguing that the remand was necessary to enable police to complete investigations. She further told the court that the accused persons posed a flight risk.
The case has been adjourned to January 19, 2026.
Presenting the facts, Chief Inspector Asare told the court that the victim, whose identity has been withheld, often visited the Mesopeh household to run errands and assist with domestic chores.
According to the prosecution, on December 30, 2025, the victim had a disagreement with the accused persons’ seven-year-old brother, which escalated into a physical confrontation during which the boy was injured.
The boy later reported the incident to his family, after which the accused persons allegedly went in search of the victim and assaulted her, causing injuries and bodily pain.
The prosecution further stated that a video recording of the incident circulated widely on social media, leading to the arrest of the accused persons for prosecution.
