The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to hold a National Thanksgiving Service following the successful conduct of its presidential primary held on January 31, 2026.
According to a statement signed by the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Justin Kodua Frimpong and issued on February 9, the thanksgiving service is aimed at expressing the party’s gratitude to God for what it described as a peaceful, credible and historic internal electoral process.
The event will be held under the theme “Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,” drawn from Psalm 50:14.
The presidential primary, which has been widely praised by party stakeholders, resulted in the emphatic election of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general election. The party said it remains deeply thankful to God for the successful outcome of the exercise.
The thanksgiving activities will be held in two parts. An Islamic thanksgiving prayer service is scheduled for Friday, February 13, 2026, at the National Mosque in Kanda, beginning at 12:30 p.m. This will be followed by an interdenominational Christian thanksgiving service on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Auditorium, starting at 11:00 a.m.
The services are expected to be attended by Dr Bawumia, party leadership, Christian and Muslim clergy, current and former Members of Parliament, former ministers, former chief executives and managing directors of state institutions, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, as well as other past government appointees.
The NPP has extended an invitation to its members, supporters, sympathisers and the general public to participate in the thanksgiving services, as the party seeks divine guidance for its leadership and vision for Ghana.
