The Ghana Police Service has arrested a woman for allegedly setting fire to the auditorium of Grace Mountain Chapel, the church led by Alpha Hour founder Pastor Elvis Agyemang.
The incident occurred on the night of Monday, February 9, during a quiet period at the auditorium, when the suspect reportedly pretended to be praying.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the church shows the woman pouring a flammable substance on chairs near the altar before setting them ablaze.
The church’s security team responded swiftly and managed to contain the fire before it spread further. No injuries were recorded, and damage to the facility was minimal.
Reacting to the incident, Pastor Agyemang Elvis has announced the temporary suspension of all in-person prayer sessions at the auditorium.
“If you come here today, it will not be open, but it will not stop us. We will fix the place, and prayers will still go on,” he said.
He added that the suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to determine her motive and whether she acted alone or with accomplices.
Alpha Hour is a widely followed daily one-hour prayer meeting that begins at 12 a.m. GMT and is streamed live on social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and Zoom.
