President John Mahama has called on Ghanaians to safeguard the country’s long-standing tradition of peaceful coexistence, urging citizens to reject division, extremism, and intolerance.

Delivering a message at Independence Square during Eid-al-Fitr celebrations on Friday, March 20, the President described Ghana as a shining example of unity among diverse religious and cultural groups.

“Fellow citizens, Ghana continues to stand as a shining example of peaceful coexistence. Our diversity of faith and culture is not a weakness; it is rather our strength,” he said.

President Mahama noted that Muslims and Christians in Ghana continue to celebrate each other’s religious observances and participate in shared social traditions, a culture he described as a unique national asset.

“Muslims and Christians celebrate each other’s holy days, we participate in each other’s ceremonies, and we coexist as one people. This harmony is a precious gift, and we must protect it,” he stressed.

He cautioned against forces that threaten national unity, urging citizens to consciously choose peace and dialogue over conflict.

“Let us reject anything that will divide us. Let us reject extremism and intolerance. Let us choose dialogue over discord, unity over division, and peace over conflict,” the President stated.

President Mahama stated that preserving national harmony is essential to sustaining Ghana’s stability and development, calling on citizens to remain committed to tolerance and mutual respect.
