Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged the current government to complete and operationalize all stalled Agenda 111 hospitals, a project initiated by his administration.

The initiative aimed to construct 111 hospitals across the country to improve access to healthcare.

Speaking over the weekend at the launch of the Kyebi Government Hospital’s centenary celebrations organised by the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional State and the Kyebi Government Hospital, Former President Akufo-Addo indicated that the completion of these hospitals will significantly enhance the quality of healthcare delivery in the nation

He emphasised that healthcare should not be politicised.

“We must also be honest, not every project was realised, not every project was completed. At some facilities, we reached advanced stages that could not be finished before our term ended. Agenda 111 must be continued. Continuity, not disruption, is how health systems succeed,” he said.

On his part, the Overlord of Akyem Abuakwa State, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, also reiterated the need for the retooling of the 100 year old facility.

He called on all stakeholders to come together to help improve the quality of healthcare delivery in the area.

“I am not the only one frustrated but the nurses and doctors over there are equally frustrated. 100 years later, there is no scan machine in Kyebi Hospital, there is no quality laboratory in Kyebi Hospital,” he bemoaned

Speaking to the media after the launch, the Medical Superintendent of the Kyebi Government Hospital, Dr. Isaac Adu-Opoku Antwi, also expressed concerns about the current situation, particularly the fact that children are sharing the same wards with pregnant women which is negatively impacting the quality of healthcare.

He called on government for the construction of a maternity block, children’s block, a physiotherapy unit, and a bungalow for health workers.
