A newborn baby has been rescued after being found abandoned in a bush at Dechimso-Hafia, located in the Manhyia South Municipality of the Ashanti Region. The incident has sparked a police investigation and renewed concerns over child welfare in the area.
The infant was discovered by residents on Sunday, who quickly notified authorities. The baby was then rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital for urgent medical care.
Confirming the incident to the media, the assembly member for the area, Ahenkan Baako, said the child is now receiving medical attention while efforts continue to locate the mother.
“We have taken the baby to the Manhyia Government Hospital for further assessment,” he stated.
He added that security agencies have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the person responsible for abandoning the newborn.
Police in the area say they are actively following leads and have appealed to residents of Dechimso-Hafia and nearby communities to share any information that could aid the investigation.
The incident has caused distress among residents, many of whom have described it as troubling and are calling for stronger community vigilance and better social support systems to prevent future occurrences.
Authorities have not yet released details on the baby’s condition, but confirm that medical staff are closely monitoring the situation at the hospital.
Investigations are ongoing.
