The Head of Public Affairs at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), John Kapi, has announced adjustments to examination questions and schedules to curb cross-border leakages.
Speaking on Badwam on Adom TV, he explained that while Ghana and Nigeria previously administered the same questions simultaneously, changes have now been introduced. According to Kapi, the adjustments were necessary due to recurring incidents of “apor”—exam leakages across borders.
“We’ve made adjustments to the questions and timing. Starting earlier helps prevent cross-border leakages,” he stated.
Kapi noted that variations have now been introduced in both the questions and the timing of exams to reduce leakage risks. He further explained that because Nigeria is one hour ahead of Ghana, the examination schedule has been revised. Instead of the usual 9:00 am start time, exams in Ghana now begin at 8:30 am, with corresponding adjustments made in Nigeria.
He emphasized that these measures are aimed at ensuring fairness and maintaining the integrity of the examination process across the region.
