The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has formally referred a complaint to the Ghana Police Service concerning the conduct of Police Officer Y.E. Aboagye, who is alleged to have brandished a firearm and issued threats against personnel of Day and Night Towing Service during a law enforcement exercise on Tuesday, July 21.

The incident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. at Roman Hill within the Central Business District and has subsequently generated significant public interest following the circulation of video footage on social media.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the KMA detailed that the towing team had immobilized a vehicle parked in a prohibited zone and was in the process of towing it when the officer arrived, identified himself as the owner, and objected to the action. The exchange escalated verbally, culminating in an alleged threat to shoot one of the workers in the foot.

The Assembly described the officer’s actions as regrettable and preventable, and confirmed that the matter has been submitted to the Police Service for investigation and appropriate sanctions. The KMA further clarified that the officer was not affiliated with its security taskforce and urged the public to treat any contrary reports as inaccurate.
