The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced its discontinuance of any criminal investigation against persons named in the Airbus SE scandal including former President John Mahama.
This comes after the OSP said it was unable to establish any evidence of bribery against the individuals in the scandal after concluding its investigations.
Announcing the news at a press briefing on Thursday, August 8, 2024, the OSP noted that it will also withdraw its arrest warrant issued against some four persons and will not begin any criminal proceedings.
“The Special Prosecutor has directed a closure of the OSP investigation into alleged bribery of high-ranking Ghanaian officials by Airbus SE through intermediaries in respect of the sale of military transport aircraft by Airbus SE to the Republic of Ghana between 2009 and 2015.
“The OSP would not institute criminal proceedings against any person in respect of this investigation. Special Prosecutor has also directed authorized officers of the OSP to rescind the 13 May, 2021 warrant of arrest obtained from the circuit court of Accra for the arrest of Samuel Adam Mahama, Philip Shun, Lean Sarah Davies and Sarah Pherno.
“Earlier today, I sent out correspondence notifying Interpol of the withdrawal of the red notices in respect of Samuel Adam Mahama, Philip Shun, Lean Sarah Davies and Sarah Pherno,” the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng stated.
