President John Mahama has promised traders of Adum in Kumasi whose shops were gutted by fire on March 21, of government support.

President Mahama visited the area on Friday, March 21.

Speaking after fire officers briefed him on what happened, the President said “I have directed NADMO to assist affected traders, that is in the interim. We will also discuss with the Chief of staff together with the Ashanti Regional Minister to also support the traders.

Scores of shops at ‘Blue Light’,  Adum in the Central Business Centre of Kumasi were gutted by fire Friday dawn.

Some shop owners attempted to defy the ravaging fire to salvage wares. They threw caution to the wind despite warnings from the police and firefighters to stay away.

A shop owner had to be forced out, and at a point a ladder was needed to evacuate him from danger.

“The fire fighters have not done enough to kill this fire” a distraught shop owner tells TV3’s Evans-Nkum
The cause of the fire remains unknown, but it appears as if an explosion was heard from some of the burning shops.
