Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has underscored the government’s commitment to improving specialist healthcare delivery in the country.
According to her, the focus is on expanding access to high-quality medical services while ensuring Ghana remains competitive in specialist training globally.
She made the remarks during a courtesy call from the leadership of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, led by Professor Afua Hesse, at her office on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
The meeting highlighted preparations for a major volunteer medical outreach expected to mobilize between 1,500 and 2,000 delegates to provide free medical services to patients.
Discussions also included the relaunch of the College’s Endowment Fund, which will support specialist training in Ghana and across the sub-region, as well as plans to establish a medical simulation centre to enhance training and skills development.
“I expressed my appreciation for the College’s dedication to issues that directly affect the well-being of all Ghanaians. I commended the high quality of specialist training and emphasized the need to consistently enhance it to address gaps in healthcare delivery,” Professor Opoku-Agyemang said.
She further highlighted the importance of expanding access to healthcare through multiple outlets and fostering collaboration across institutions.
The Vice President reaffirmed the government’s recognition of the critical role specialist training plays in building a resilient healthcare system and urged sustained partnerships to ensure improved care for Ghanaians.
