Sammi Awuku, the Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, has urged President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Energy and Green Transition to take immediate action against the persistent power supply issues, warning that students preparing for key national exams are being adversely affected.
In a Facebook post on Monday, April 27, the MP voiced concern over the erratic electricity supply, which he said is disrupting studies and causing anxiety among candidates taking the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as well as those getting ready for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
“We’re all witnessing a return of this unpredictable power situation, and frankly, it’s getting quite alarming,” he wrote.
He noted that the unstable power supply is hindering students from focusing on their revision, particularly during what he called “a very critical period” in their academic lives. He emphasized that while exams will go ahead regardless, learners deserve a consistent environment to prepare adequately.
“At the very least, let’s give our students a fair and stable environment to study and sit for their exams,” he said, adding a direct plea to the government: “Please ACT Now!”
Awuku also pointed out that beyond students, businesses, young entrepreneurs, and small-scale workers are suffering from the inconsistent power supply, describing public frustration as “real” and increasingly widespread.
