A major reshuffle within the Mahama administration is expected to be announced today, Friday, August 7, with Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga set to receive a ministerial appointment and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings expected to take up a new ministerial portfolio, sources close to Fishfmonline have indicated.
According to highly placed sources familiar with the development, President John Dramani Mahama is expected to appoint Mr Ayariga as a Minister of State, a move that will trigger changes within the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s parliamentary leadership.
The appointment is expected to pave the way for the selection of a new Majority Leader to steer government business in Parliament.
Sources further indicate that Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, is expected to be reassigned to head the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology to replace the late Murtala Mohammed.
Although the Presidency has yet to make an official announcement, Fish fm understands that a statement confirming the changes is expected later today.
The anticipated appointments form part of what sources describe as a broader reorganisation of government intended to strengthen the administration as it advances its policy agenda.
Mr Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, has led the NDC’s parliamentary caucus as Majority Leader since the party assumed office following the 2024 general election.
Should his appointment be confirmed, the NDC Parliamentary Caucus will be required to elect or appoint a successor to coordinate government business in Parliament, making the Majority Leader’s position one of the key offices to watch in the coming hours.
Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings’ expected reassignment is also likely to attract significant attention, given her growing profile within the governing party and Parliament.
