The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) plans to stage a protest against the Mahama-led government over alleged corruption and what it describes as the government’s failure to fulfil promises made to Ghanaians.
Dubbed the “Yegyeyɛ Sika Demo”, the protest is intended to demand accountability, job creation and economic relief.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the party’s National Youth Organiser, Abanga Yakubu Fuseini, said the protest would, among other demands, call on Sports Minister Kofi Adams and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to refund monies the youth wing claims have not been properly accounted for.
The group is also questioning the cocoa producer price of GH¢2,600 per bag, compared with GH¢3,100, describing the amount paid to farmers as unfair.
It is further raising concerns over what it considers the government’s failure to implement the proposed 24-hour economy policy.
The date and venue for the protest are yet to be announced.
