Ghana’s disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast has resulted in a significant drop in the country’s FIFA ranking.

Black Stars have plummeted six spots to 67th globally and have also fallen three places to 14th in Africa, according to the latest FIFA ranking released on February 15.

Before the tournament, Ghana was ranked 11th in Africa, but their early exit from the group stage has seen them overtaken by Cape Verde, South Africa, and Congo DR.

These teams reached the knockout stages, with Cape Verde being eliminated in the quarter-finals while South Africa and Congo DR finished third and fourth respectively.

The decline of the senior national team is a cause for concern, as Ghana was once ranked second in Africa just eight years ago.

The recent performance has sparked protests from hundreds of Ghanaian football fans, who have taken to the streets demanding radical changes in the system.

Ghana’s slide down the rankings reflects their poor form in recent times, and the team’s failure to live up to expectations at the AFCON has raised questions about the future of the team.

The development highlights the need for improvement in the Ghanaian football setup, and the calls for change from fans and pundits alike suggest that drastic measures may be needed to address the issues plaguing the team.
