H.E. Dr. Samuel Ben Owusu, Country Director of the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), has urged the Government of Ghana to prioritize peace promotion ahead of the 2024 elections.

Speaking at the National Peace Council and Prophets for Peaceful Elections 2024 dialogue, Dr. Owusu emphasized that investing in peace initiatives is crucial for a stable and secure electoral process.

The dialogue, held on August 27, 2024, brought together prominent leaders, including Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, Chairman of the Peace Council; His Eminent, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams; Bishop Emmanuel Fianu; and Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah.

Dr. Owusu stressed that peace promotion is essential for preventing electoral violence and ensuring a credible and peaceful transition of power.

He encouraged the government to collaborate with civil society organizations, religious leaders, and traditional authorities to foster a culture of peace and tolerance.

The IAWPA Country Director also highlighted the importance of addressing grievances and conflicts through peaceful means, promoting voter education, and supporting initiatives that promote national unity and cohesion.

The dialogue participants agreed that peace promotion is a shared responsibility and pledged to work together to ensure peaceful elections in 2024.
